Cassidy’s work is a loving reflection of childhood memory through a haunted lens. Working at the intersection of painting and textile, she uses the figure and space to create unsettling narratives that raise many questions. By infusing nostalgic scenes with paranormal subjects, Cassidy aims to create a relationship between comfort and discomfort. Fear and obsession with the paranormal combine with nostalgic sentiments as they bring Cassidy closer to home and family. Despite unsettling subject matter: themes of play, domesticity, kitsch, and a fondness for home are intrinsic in her work. Her current work varies in size and often addresses the sides of each painting with a plush, fabric frame, pushing feelings of comfort even further.
Cassidy Argo was born and grew up in Rhode Island. She is a recent graduate from Moore College of Art & Design in spring 2021. She is a figurative oil painter who often addresses the sides of her paintings with a textile element. Cassidy is a recent Wind Young Fellowship recipient with Inliquid Art Gallery in Philadelphia.
